Nanaimo

We made a special effort this morning to get up and about in a more timely manner LOL!
The ferry we wanted to take was leaving at 10:40 am. and it was recommended that if you didn't want to pay the $17 reservation fee, you should arrive an hour early. Well, best laid plans don't always work out the way you want ..... by the time we were gassed up ($1.34 per litre!!!!) and on the road, the GPS arrival time was 9:58 am, close enough I figured.
Sooooo we were on the highway, same one that goes to Whistler, and Suzie (the GPS) said stay left to go to Horseshoe Bay and next thing we knew, we were "past" the sign on the road, sigh.  Well, happily for us, there was a uturn exit a few miles up the road and we finally pulled into the ferry terminal at 10:15 am. In the end, we were one of the last ones loaded on the ferry for 10:40 sailing! Phew!!
We found our B&B really easily when we got to Nanaimo. It is really cute, built at the back of the owners home. It has its own entrance and patio and really feels like a rustic type  cabin, but super nice, I would come back in a heartbeat.
The B&B owner, Sandy talked to us for a while and gave us info about places to go and things to do around Nanaimo and Ucluet.
We drove to Pipers Point, a park on the edge of town, and followed a trail along the beach of Georgia Strait.  You could look out across the water and see sailboats, loons and even in the distance, the mountains of the mainland. The trail was rocky in places and not always easy to manage so on our way back to the car, we decided to roll up our pant legs and wade around a particularly large rock rather than climb it. Long story short, my pant legs didn't stay rolled up and actually Ann and I were both soaked by the time we got back to the trail. So we just sat out on a rock, enjoyed the sun and tried to dry out, that's the life eh?
By this time we were starving and after a wander about, we settled on a Greek restaurant in the Old City part of town. The food, beef tenderloin Souvlaki, humus, rice and wine, incredible!!
A long walk along the waterfront and yet another chance to gaze out across the breathtaking views and we're both done!
Goodnight all!
